LiveLink™ for Simulink®

COMSOL Multiphysics® version 5.6 introduces the new LiveLink™ for Simulink® product, which is useful for performing cosimulation with the Simulink® software and reduced-order modeling. It also facilitates control design and simulation using the MATLAB® software and the Control System Toolbox.

Cosimulation

Using LiveLink™ for Simulink®, it is possible to perform a simulation of COMSOL models with Simulink®, which means that you can integrate multiphysics modeling with control design and simulation performed with Simulink®. Both static and time-dependent models are supported.

The Simulink UI with a COMSOL cosimulation of a battery pack and a control design diagram.
Battery pack discharge control model with thermal analysis. This example computes the temperature distribution in a battery pack during a 4C discharge. To ensure a constant output power and prevent extreme battery usage conditions, the multiphysics model is coupled to a control diagram in Simulink®.

Tutorial Models

COMSOL Multiphysics® version 5.6 includes a set of tutorial models for LiveLink™ for Simulink®.

Lithium-Ion Battery Model Charge Control

The Simulink UI with a COMSOL cosimulation for a lithium-ion battery.
This model combines the electrochemistry simulation in COMSOL Multiphysics® with a control system implemented in Simulink®. The control system adjusts the electric current during the charge to prevent overvoltage.

Magnetic Brake

The Simulink UI with a COMSOL cosimulation for a magnetic brake.
A magnetic brake in its simplest form consists of a disc of conductive material and a permanent magnet. This example shows how to integrate a static COMSOL model within a time-dependent simulation in Simulink®.
