Car Cabin Acoustics - Frequency Domain Analysis

In this model the acoustics of a car cabin is analyzed in order to study the performance of a sound system in the low to mid frequency range. The cabin is of a typical sedan interior, that is, the inside of a hard-top family car. The model studies the frequency response at the location of a microphone array as well as the modal behavior at low frequencies.
To perform the simulation a source is defined for the midtone/woofer loudspeaker located in the car door. Impedance conditions are added to model soft absorbing surfaces for the seats, carpet, roof trim, dashboard, and door panels.
A frequency sweep is performed from 10 Hz to 1 kHz and an eigenfrequency study is also carried out. Furthermore, the model also shows how to set up an efficient iterative solver based on the complex shifted Laplacian (CSL) method. The model is solved at 2 kHz and 3 kHz using this method, showing good performance.
The model results in plots of the pressure, sound pressure level, and intensity inside the car. These are important tools to visualize the acoustic field inside closed spaces and identify problematic resonances and standing modes. The frequency response at given points inside the cabin is also determined, specifically at the locations of a virtual microphone array.
