This introductory demonstration will show you the fundamental workflow of the COMSOL Multiphysics® modeling environment. We will cover all of the key modeling steps, including creating geometries, setting up physics, meshing, solving, and postprocessing. We will also highlight new features in COMSOL Multiphysics® version 5.4.

COMSOL Speakers

Mranal Jain
Mranal Jain has been with COMSOL since 2013 and currently manages the applications team in the Los Altos, CA office. He studied microfluidics and electrokinetic transport, while pursuing his PhD in chemical engineering at the University of Alberta, Edmonton.
Patrick Grahn
Patrick Grahn is part of the COMSOL team in Helsinki, specializing in electromagnetics, acoustics, and optics. He received his DSc (Tech) in engineering physics at Aalto University in Finland.
Nitin Muthegowda
Nitin Muthegowda works as an academic sales engineer at COMSOL's office in Los Altos, CA. Prior to joining COMSOL, Nitin received his MS degree in mechanical engineering from Arizona State University, specializing in structural and corrosion engineering. He also worked as a research engineer at AUMA for two years before graduate school.

Invited Speakers

Arlen Ward
System Insight Engineering
Arlen Ward is an industry-leading modeling and simulation expert and provides consulting services through System Insight Engineering to medical device companies of all sizes. Arlen has 17+ years of experience modeling medical applications, with a specialization in energy-tissue interaction for laser, ultrasound, RF, and electrosurgery. He trained as a mechanical engineer with a PhD from Colorado State University, where his research focused on using computational modeling and simulation to improve the performance of energy-based tools in urological surgery. Arlen has 30+ issued U.S. and worldwide medical device patents, and his field of emphasis is leveraging modeling and simulation to streamline product development cycles by shortening prototyping time and speeding up regulatory approval.
Peter Lyu
Peter Lyu leads the solutions engineering team at Rescale. He manages technical presales and solutions architecture in North America. His team helps engineers and scientists accelerate their simulations by leveraging the largest and most secure global HPC network on Rescale. Peter received his master's and PhD degrees in aerospace engineering from the University of Michigan, where he worked on several NASA and Boeing projects on aircraft design and the multidisciplinary design optimization of a blended-wing-body aircraft. Prior to joining Rescale, he led the CFD applications team at COMSOL, specializing in fluid flow, heat transfer, and chemical reaction simulations and optimization.
Xiaopu Li
Applied Materials
Xiaopu Li received his BSc degree in physics from Peking University, Beijing, China, in 2011 and his ME and PhD degrees in engineering physics from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, in 2013 and 2017, respectively. He has been with Applied Materials as an electrical engineer since 2017. His current research interests include the modeling of partially ionized plasma and related electromagnetic properties.
