Sheet Metal Forming by a Spherical Punch
A common sheet metal forming process is where a punch is used to deform a plate clamped between two jaws. This axi-symmetric contact model simulates the deformation of an elasto-plastic circular plate being bent by a spherical punch.
The force necessary to deform the plate and the shape of the plate after the removal of the load are easily investigated.
