modelling in comsol multiphysics

Hi,

I'm a beginer in comsol; I would to model with a PDE Mode coupled by a plane strain module. In comsol multiphysics plane strain module, in subdomain settings there is no possibility to put different material properties for diffreent directions (see the 1 attached file).
But external to Comsol Multiphysics, specifically in structural mechanics module, one can apply n ot isotropic materials. why is that?
Someone can help me?

Another question is: Can I coupling a PDE Mode (with Comsol Multiphysics) with a plane strain module from structural mechanics? That is because I have an orthotropic material.

What do you mean by different material properties in different direction ?

materials are isotropic or anisotropic with some grades in between, but for this you need to define the stress tensor fully, COMSOL have different combinations made up reasdily. Check the doc about anisotropic material (such as crystals or sometime fibred material). The main difficulty with these materials are to define correctly the direction, and to get univoquely the material constants (as often there are several to adjust)
