This course is of interest to professionals with some knowledge of fluid mechanics and is for analyzing fluid flow problems using COMSOL Multiphysics. Covering both theory and practical applications, this class emphasizes how to use COMSOL Multiphysics more efficiently for CFD simulations. A comprehensive overview of the CFD Module will be given in addition to hands-on exercises for different types of fluid mechanics problems. The course covers the problem setup, the choice of the right boundary conditions, the post-processing options and the result visualization tools. Participants will also learn how to prepare their geometry or CAD file for CFD analysis and how to build a mesh that is well-suited to fluid flow simulations.
- Introduction to CFD
- Single phase flow
- Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids
- Overview of the RANS turbulence models
- Multiphysics flow
- Heat and mass transport
- Multiphysics driven flow
- Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI)
- Rotating machinery
- Particle tracing
- Multiphase flow
- Interface tracking methods
- Mixture models
Mranal Jain received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. He is an Applications Engineer at our Palo Alto office. Prior to joining COMSOL, Mranal worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Louisiana State University. He has experience in using COMSOL Multiphysics for solving microfluidics problems involving electrokinetic transport, micromixing, two phase flow and shape optimization.
This course assumes some familiarity with the basic concepts of fluid dynamics. We strongly recommend that those new to COMSOL Multiphysics take the COMSOL Multiphysics Intensive Training course prior to attending this class.
The hours for all COMSOL courses are from 9:00am to 5:00pm; please plan to check in between 8:30am and 9:00am. Lunch and refreshments during the morning and afternoon breaks are included.
